SIENA & SAN GIMIGNANO TOUR
Excursion to Siena and San Gimignano. (8 hours)
Depart from Florence and we also offer a personal service of “door to door”.
Visiting Siena is like stepping back in time, a perfect example of medieval architecture. The city is built on 3 different hills with narrow streets and delightful squares which have maintained all the characteristics of a medieval city. Some of the highlights – the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria dell’Assunta and the famous Campo Square, where the “Palio” horse race takes place twice a year on July 2nd and August 16th. You will have 2 hrs to look around and then have lunch in a typical restaurant in the old city or on request stop for lunch in Monteriggioni Castle, another beautiful walled hamlet and a quick look around. Later drive to San Gimignano (45 mins), a stunning medieval village perched high up on a hill. With only 14 of it’s original 74 towers left, the village has been beautifully restored and you can spend 1hr 30 mins exploring the narrow streets and characteristic squares and there are some lovely shops selling tasteful souvenirs and enjoy some of the best ice cream, a definite must during your stay in Italy. With time permitting we can stop at a winery along the Chianti Classico route and do some wine tasting of some of the famous labels. Return to Florence.
Transport – comfortable 7 seater V Class Mercedes minivan with air conditioning and English speaking driver. Journey time 1 hr 15 minutes each way. Tour of wine estate with tastings. €10-15 per person, lunch extra. Additional hourly charge to prolong tour.
